Not a Cleaner Backlog. A Shorter Exposure Window.

Egnyte cut median time to mitigate critical open-source vulnerabilities with Endor Labs. Not by pushing engineers to work faster or auto-closing unreachable findings, but by surfacing ownership and exposure evidence earlier. Next: agents that remove the remaining latency.

Last week, Egnyte and Endor Labs published a case study documenting a substantial reduction in median time to mitigate critical vulnerabilities in open-source packages.

That is the outcome I care about because vulnerability management is ultimately a race against exposure age. A finding that remains unresolved for three months creates a very different exposure profile from one that is investigated, assigned and fixed in three weeks.

We did not achieve the improvement by telling engineering teams to work faster or by automatically closing everything that was not marked reachable. Reachability is one of the most important inputs into prioritization, but it is still one piece of evidence, not an oracle. Analysis can be incomplete. Code paths and configurations change. A dependency that is not reachable today may become reachable after a later release.

The value of Endor Labs was that it made context available much earlier in the process: where the dependency exists, whether a known execution path is present, which application and team own it, and what evidence supports the assessment of exposure and priority. That made it possible to spend less time reconstructing basic facts and more time moving material findings toward mitigation.

We are now extending that operating model with agents. The aim is to remove more of the remaining latency around evidence enrichment, ownership mapping, routing, mitigation preparation and validation.

That is the direction of our agentic vulnerability exposure management program: reduce the time from detection to a defensible decision, and then reduce the time from that decision to mitigation.

Reducing median time to mitigate matters because it reduces how long known exposure remains in the environment. The goal is not a cleaner backlog. It is a shorter exposure window.
